DIY Ottoman made from an Old Tire
This is my favorite kind of DIY project, cheap, easy and environmentally friendly! After updating my bathroom and closet, I needed to spruce up the bedroom. I’m loving the bohemian look these days, so what better than a ottoman made from a repurposed material like an old tire? A not so fun fact about tire disposal is that tires are one of the most problematic sources of waste we face today. 44 States have banned them from landfills, but the recycling process is expensive and almost always passed on to the consumer. Tire DIY /repurposing projects could help, even if just a little…. What you will need: Old Tire …

Upcycled Light Fixtures to Holiday Decor
When I painted my main room and entry way earlier this year, I was undecided on what to do with the old light fixtures that we replaced. But then it hit me, these fixtures would make awesome holiday lanterns with a few adjustments. It’s the best kind of project, the upcycled kind of project! These fixtures come apart quite easily, I didn’t even need any tools. Start by unscrewing the very top ring and continuing piece by piece working your way down until you can remove the inside light unit. After the light bulb center and cords have been removed, unscrew the top and bottom round head…

Christmas Mantle 2019
It’s beginning to look a little like Christmas around here. No tree yet, but my Christmas Mantle 2019 is finished. This year I was a little bogged down with all the Christmas decor in retail stores since this summer. I say “bay, humbug” to buying any holiday decor, that is, outside of replacing my last few strands of non LED lights with LED lights. First, you will need to collect branches from your yard or surrounding area. I love cypress and juniper versus pine, not as messy and easier to work with. But you could really can do this with so many different types of branches. See my natural holiday…

Holiday Yard Decor
Holiday yards can get a little crazy with plastic deer, giant inflatables and cartoon figurines. This year I went all natural and it’s my all-time favorite. During our trip to Montana for Thanksgiving, we kept running across cool winter styled window boxes. Which gave me the idea, to use my raised garden beds as part of my Christmas yard decor. I also tied the style of the raised beds and window box to my front door decor. I am trying to avoid adding any more plastic to my home, so this natural decor was not only economical but good for the environment, too. Everything I used in my raised beds…

Garden for Free Part III – Pineapple
I am so excited to finally show you all my pineapple plant! I might be a plant nerd, but a pineapple plant grown from scraps that would normally be thrown away or composted is seriously cool! Like my other “garden for free” blogs, this process just takes a little research and patience. First start with a healthy pineapple that is not overripe. Step 1 – Prep your pineapple (option 1) Remove the top of the pineapple with one 1-inch cut, leaving roughly 1 inch of pineapple “flesh”, along with the green top portion of the fruit. You are only using the top nonedible portion of the fruit, so cut the…
