Es Calo des Moro Beach in Southern Mallorca

Majorca, Spain 2019

I can sum up our Majorca trip in 3 words….best trip ever!  I have always loved the water and beach but nothing compares to the beautiful Majorca coastline.  Most importantly, this was a trip that our girls really loved, too.  Teenagers can be difficult to drag around Europe and aren’t always up for sightseeing, but Majorca was a perfect family trip.  Our days were filled with plenty of beach time, water sports, sight-seeing and great food.  Palma is the largest city in Majorca and where you will fly in and out of, but I would not recommend spending too much time there.  It’s known to be a party town and the beaches are crowded and not nearly as pristine as the lesser populated areas.

We stayed in Colonia St. Jordi, a small village on the southern end of the island.  We opted for a oceanfront apartment from Tui Villas, that was recently renovated and quite perfect for a family of four.  I researched all the options and with a 13 and 15 year old, we really needed 2 bedrooms to be comfortable, so most resort/hotels were out unless we wanted to rent two separate rooms and let the girls loose, also not an option.  This gave us the option for breakfasts and occasional lunches/dinners that we cooked when we were too exhausted to venture out.

Food

The food was delicious.  We ate a lot of seafood, paella, tapas, torta, olives, and always served with bread and aioli.  I usually rely heavily on Yelp for restaurant advice but there were limited reviews for the majority of the island.  Luckily, we did not encounter any bad food.  I would say there was a decent range of cost, so check the menu prior to getting a table wherever you go.

Where to go and what to see?

Es Calo des Moro Beach – this was a short 15 minute drive from our condo and our favorite stop all week.  It’s a little bit of a walk to get to, privately maintained and no hotels/restaurants but so worth it!  I’ve never seen anything so beautiful!

Cala Santanyi

If you go to Es Calo des Moro beach and get hungry, go over to Cala Santanyi for excellent seafood right on the beach.  It’s roughly 10 minutes down the road and has beautiful beaches and resort.  Be careful if the last few days were windy, the rough sea seemed to bring a lot of jellyfish to shore.   Make sure to check for the jellyfish flag on the lifeguard chair.  We missed the flag and all got stung that day :).  But don’t worry too much, they are quite small and it was a pretty minor irritation.

Sóller

Sóller is a beautiful old town with a charming downtown area.  Complete with cobblestone streets, great shopping and alot to see.  There’s an option to take a train from Palma but we were glad we didn’t because we went on a very hot day and the train is open air/no ac.    The Port of Sóller is quite impressive, too, with exquisite harbor views and plenty of waterside dining.

Cala Sant Vincent

On the northern side of the island, Cala Sant Vincent, a majestic beach town with incredible views.  A short drive away is the Formentor lighthouse and the Port of Pollenca.  Unfortunately, we arrived too late in the day to drive all the way to the lighthouse, so be sure to go early.

Exploring the island by water

We rented a small boat for the day and enjoyed it so much!  There is so much beautiful shoreline to explore and the snorkeling was truly amazing.  Water so clear, fish and fauna everywhere, it was a family day we won’t ever forget.

Marjorca

Marjorca is certainly one of those places that you will not want to leave, and we can’t wait to go back!
