Floating bedside tables made from old pallets
Using old pallets on DIY projects has gotten popular, but I hadn’t tried it. When our new flooring was delivered on this beautiful pallet, I saved it. Six months later, I found the perfect use for it. With the remodeling of our lake cabin, we needed to tie in the modern farmhouse look in the kitchen with the rest of the house. What better way than rustic but modern floating tables in the bedroom….I love the SGS (Scattaglia Growers & Shippers) emblem and wanted to incorporate that into the design. The pallet came with the emblem on both sides, which worked out well because I needed two tables. We…

Buffalo Chicken or Cauliflower Pizza, Flatbread or Rolls
I am all about options because I like to work with what I have on hand, I need to offer plant based as an option, and mostly I really don’t like anything in my fridge to go to waste. One of my family’s favorite meals are pizza rolls. I love making these rolls after meals that typically have a lot of left overs. The night before last, I had roasted a chicken on the grill and had some leftover. I hadn’t tried my buffalo chicken roll since going vegan, but wanted to give it a try with cauliflower. When roasted, cauliflower has a texture similar to chicken and it absorbs seasoning/sauce…

Complete Kitchen Renovation on a Tiny Budget
Yesterday I blogged about the overall cabin renovation, but today I thought I would go into the details for the kitchen. As I mentioned before, the cabin sustained water damage throughout, which prompted the renovation. One thing led to another....We started this project by removing all the old musty carpet throughout. Then we completely gutted the kitchen area, being careful to save all the cabinetry, because we planned to reuse/repurpose all that was possible for the new cabinets. Then we painted and added laminant flooring. I had to do a lot of patch work on the rough walls. We opted to just try and fill in the cracks because we…

Complete Cabin Renovation on a SERIOUS budget!
We are finally done with updating our cabin. This was a big project with a tight deadline. If I didn't know before, I certainly know now how much my husband loves me. Here is the new kitchen, it is 100% built and designed by us. You could say I had my very own little fixer upper moment, but instead of a six figure reno budget, we did ours on a $4-$5,000 budget. It started out quite small(as most projects do), but grew when we realized how much water damage was in the cabin. The pictures don't do the smell justice. We were in the process of trying to sell this property…

Bathroom sink salvage – you don’t have to add to landfills to have a beautiful home!
My husband and I are in the process of renovating a 40 year old cabin. We are trying to save/repurpose as much as we can. Keeping that in mind, I was not about to replace the bathroom sink/vanity. Even though it was ugly! I started by painting the cabinet with charcoal chalk paint and a wax finish. Then I gave the original knobs a quick coat of pewter rustoleum. For the countertop, I removed the formica covering, which had been glued to a wood base. I was careful not damage the wood. Mostly I used a razor blade and scraper. Wear eye protection because some of the tiny pieces were really…
