The Easter Lily – great as a gift AND to plant for blooms year after year!

Easter lilllies thriving in my garden

Easter has come and gone, but my lilies are in full bloom.  I love them for their giant blossoms and their sweet smell.  I often take an Easter lily as a hostess gift thisfancy Easter table time of year.

Most people don’t think to plant their lilies outside after the holiday have passed but lilies are great perenials! Depending where you live, you will want to check the zone and heat tolerance.  Most variations of Easter lilies are hardy to zone 5.  Also, be sure to plant after the last chance of frost has passed.

While they only bloom once in the spring, their green foliage lasts all season.  In colder climates, they will not bloom until summer.  Lilies make a great ground cover because they expand each year and are very easy to grow (in Texas and other warm areas, at least).

Only have a patio? Use as greenery for your container arrangements (near the center).    The container would need to be larger enough  to accommodate their height (some

yard bunnyvariations get as big as 3 to 4 feet tall).  If you keep your lilies indoors, keep in mind that they are poisonous and must be kept away from anyone or thing prone to nibbling.  😉
