Stencilled dresser with hutch turned chalk board
I came across this dresser hutch combo and I thought it would make a good project piece. I was thinking to do a sutble design with a stencil, nothing too bold. After looking around online, I found one example that used a stencil to make the countertop of a dresser stand out like it was an actual countertop. Rather than painting the top portion of the hutch all white, I opted to make the backing a black board – functional and stylish. Before Pic How to: 1. Meatless Mondays – try it and you will find yourself eating meatless more than just Mondays…
Taking part in meatless mondays is a great way to eat lighter, go “greener”, and even save money. Basically, it’s committing to no meat for one day every week. I am going one step further and trying some vegan foods. I’ll admit that I have a serious cheese addiction, but that I am not minding the vegan cheese. Because it was easier to hide this with a darker stain, I eventually wound up with a very dark door that was badly in need of a complete refinishing. I did look into purchasing a new front door, but they are quite expensive and there was still a lot of “life” left in my old door. In the end, I…

Shrimp & Grits on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas
Last week we were in San Antonio on business and had a little time to enjoy the riverwalk. What a great city with great food! Markus and I were lucky enough to get a table right on the patio at Boudro’s for dinner. We had an interesting plate of shrimp and grits with a spicy tex mex flair. It reminded us of a similar version I make, but mine’s even spicier. Boudro’s version has a tomato based sauce for the shrimp and they added bacon bits to the top of the dish. In my version below, I like to add flavor to the grits with jalepenos and a flavorful…
